How To Prepare for a 2nd Lockdown

Grab a bestie, some snuggly blankets and some hot choccy cus COVID is here to stay.

Ugh. Pretty much sums us this whole COVID19 debacle doesn’t it? I think we can safely say that 2020 has sucked with the pandemic, wildfires in Australia & America, the whole Brexit thing, the environment and many more… so on the whole we most certainly do not want to repeat the whole lockdown thing, but it seems we have to in the current situation. Ready? No, neither am I, so here are some ideas to make this lockdown a bit more bearable.

Ok so, point number 1, arguably the most important point is GET A HOBBY. Seriously. Like a proper hobby. (And no watching Netflix and Disney + does not count as a hobby) Start something that you enjoy and that you are going to do often to help keep you amused to help keep boredom at a minimum. Think about maybe starting a language, an instrument, get hooked on baking by making too many banana breads start-up reading. There are endless ideas! If you want some more boredom busters, go check out my post Top 25 Less Obvious Things To Do in Quarantine and If you want some more ideas that I could post on Pinterest, Instagram or here on the blog, then go leave a comment or DM me on Insta!

Point number 2 covers a large area of these points, and that is to STOCK UP. I don’t mean selfishly buying toilet roll in the supermarket either, I mean buying stuff that you don’t feel guilty about buying to ensure you stay comfortable holed up in your house. And doing this before we possibly go into another lockdown means you aren’t waiting for the packages or wasting £5 next day delivery. A word of warning though, don’t buy the stuff you won’t really use again after lockdown, think self-care done practically.

-Get Techy

Go buy, test, trial, examine all gadgets and gizmos in the local apple store, or test out the coffee machine in your local John Lewis then if you want to, buy it. Don’t buy something online on a whim after not seeing it in person, it’s size, shape, exact colour could be slightly different in person and we don’t want to have to send it back.

- Release your inner cosy

Summer lockdown saw us in bikinis with sunglasses in the back garden that none but our relations and that neighbour next-door saw enjoying the unusual rays of sunshine in the Uk. Winter lockdown, if it happens, will be all about the fluffy slippers, blankets and cuddly toys that lead us up to Christmas. So, this is what you want to concentrate on. Have a look into buying oversized cuddly toys, oversized hoodie-blanket things (trust me on this one, I live in it), cosy slippers etc. Try to go for comfort over fashion.

- Think about Online school.

Now I think all of us relate to struggling to motivate ourselves to get up in the morning to turn on Teams or Zoom. So much that we now resort to waking up 2min before the call and just sitting there in our PJs completing the lesson. I am guilty of this as well, but has anyone noticed how much less productive you are if you do this? So in order to motivate yourself to get up, buy anything you could possibly need in the cutest version possible to help you get up those few minutes earlier.

- And the final STOCK UP point is UP your at-home fitness game

I think it is safe to say that most people in lockdown fit into one of two categories, you either eat lots of food in front of the telly/phone endlessly watching Netflix or mindlessly scrolling through TikTok OR you decided that lockdown was the time to really get it together. The latter means you exercised frequently, didn’t eat out of boredom and actually ate well, was productive in school. Now I fitted mostly into the latter with some switching between two, mostly because I felt I had to. I am a very sporty person, and I am sure many people will agree with me when I say that at school I am the fittest I am all year. That is because I have to do it. I can’t just ‘flunk’ it. Plus I want to improve and not have to work on my fitness when I get back. So I took it into my own hands. There is literally no excuse for butting out of at-home fitness unless you are ill. In the UK we had Joe Wicks to keep us going. But to help this, much like the previous point, invest in things that will persuade you to work out. Go all out. Buy hot pink weights, skipping rope, kettlebells, resistance bands, you name it. If it’s going to make you want to work out then it is worth it.

Next point is along the same lines, and that is to PREPARE

We might go into another lockdown, and a new set of hair extensions can’t be ordered from Amazon if you want it done professionally. Spend this time to get all your grooming done. Go to the hair dressers. Waxers. Nail techs. Brow pros. Don’t get caught short this time around. Go into quarantine with perfect brows, sleek hair, nice nails, smooth legs… because who better to impress at home on the sofa than yourself?

Stay up to date.

Take this time to keep yourself up to date with all the goings-on in the world. Look at the news on your phone and turn on notifications to get alerted whenever anything significant happens. Watch the weekly news on telly, maybe even watch the news every evening! Listen to radios, podcasts… Just learn about the world around you, it’s educational, interesting and uses up time in a day. What’s not to like?

And finally, start a lockdown side hustle! Imagine how much cooler it would be if you had two streams of income. One from your parents/work, the other completely made by you! If you have a large social media following, pitch yourself to brands! Become a brand ambassador and promote the brand on your site!. Affiliate links, ads. You could do it on any social media platform. Set up a small business selling a product or reselling other products for a higher price, start a RedBubble account, a blog, a YouTube account or a Depop shop! The possibilities are endless.
